"Will You Remember Me"

"Will You Remember Me"

In your silent moments of repose, long after life has stripped you of your youth, will you remember me.
In your optimistic and exhuberant moments of passion in your life, will you remember me.
When you feel nostalgic and lonely for the silence in your heart, will you remember us.
We all love passionately in our youth and sometimes worship banality and deceit with sheer abandon and resolve.
Within the haunting spectre of of love's reality, we unknowingly mourn the hearts we choose to abandon, with utter disregard for the pain that we will brand upon their countenance, and in a karmic act, us as well.
Sometimes love's wicked remembrance leaves our side swiftly, hurriedly, like adolescent winter leaves careening down from the verdant shelter of their birth.
They leave, like our hearts, pursuing an unknown fate and abandoning that which only wished to nurture and protect us,
only asking in return for a warm embrace and phrase, nothing more.
In return, nothing more is what we gain in our untiring pursuit of that elusive, adolescent rainbow. which is nothing but the reflection of of our brilliant lies within the mirror of our soul.
The light I thought I was pursuing, was the brilliant light that was created within us by the nurturing of your words.
The burning inner glow that sprang from the true love that emanated from your being, served to brighten those scattered thoughts which were my dreams that I so foolishly thought were my creation.
Some are blessed that their wishes and prayers are not granted and thus are spared the pain of love's departure, which brings about the beginning of the journey.
I will continue on my nomadic quest to somehow find you again,
but I already know, deep within me, that your heart and love as I knew them are now forever gone.
Gone, never to return again, like my question to your dreams, will you remember me.
You might not remember me, you might not remember us, but I for certain, will mourn your loss with every minute that transpires.
I will remember you whenever I see a golden butterfly caress the myriads of petals under her fervent care,
and rejoice in the joy,
the certainty,
the warmth,
the optimism,
the resolve,
the unconditional surrender of love you chose to bestow on me.
Your unconditional surrender to my heart that is now my haunted soul, that I,
myself,
unconditionally,
forged upon my earthly path.

Author's Notes:

The painting is by the artist James Montgomery Flagg. The inspiration for this work is about loss and how sometimes we pursue the death of that which is loving toward us. Flagg found love very late in his life but could not nurture and continue it ans sadly it ended. He said this about love, "A roll in the bed with honey isn't love. And the tragic part of it is that you never learn this until you're past the age for it to happen to you again.". My words are about our personal losses as they occur to all of us.

I was unclear who was abandoned because of the use of "we" (general) in the beginning but concluded it must be he who "mourns your loss with every minute". The conclusion tells me that when this love was in full bloom--it was the best a heart could ever expect. To love like this is truly reason to rejoice--even long after the butterfly has taken flight. I love this Sergio--I hoped it would continue down the page to enjoy even longer. "we unknowingly mourn the hearts we choose to abandon, with utter disregard for the pain that we will brand upon their countenance, and in a karmic act, us as well"...I am captivated by the wisdom and beauty you impart in your work. *sigh* BRAVO!

 Sergio,
I have read this now several times getting Its whole meaning.... Life is crazy and it changes and goes its own direction
and we are just puppets on a string....life toys with us all
Soul mates  some of us truely find while others
just take second best...
I know in life I have made them mistakes ...
But sometimes they are stepping stones to another future....
Only time will tell ... The cards of life plays its own hand,....
 Brilliant with emotions....
 One of your very best....

I really like this writing.  I also really like black and white drawings, photos, etc...I collected several and then they disappeared; maybe I'll find them again.  Thanks for the sharing.

Awesome write Sergio! I have to say though! No matter how old we may get..I believe that love can be found in the mist of whatever age! I believe true love is what keeps us young and happy! I pray someday I do find my soul mate! And that he will be to me my every part thats been missing within my life! Theres a long story as to why I feel that the guy I am with now,is not my soul mate! I believe that we all are destined to be a soulmate for some one!! This is a awesome write! You work seeks into my heart! Tks for sharing!
