Bonnie Blue
I rose from slumber on Monday
Awakened to falling tears
Well aware of your affliction

Nothing else crossed my mind
As I saw you without life
Your death became my addiction

I'd have done all within my power
As you faded with passing hours
If you could speak I'd have known
The darkness inside you had grown

Now I look back and reminisce
On the great years you gave
All the things you left unsaid

The energy suddenly disappeared
Eradicated with the disease
Ostensibly returning in my head

I'd have done all within my power
A reality creeps ahead so sour
If you could speak I'd have known
Too soon, yet I should have known

Nature, so cruel yet so peaceful
It took it's course again
a peace returned in new life found

Try as I might, I can't believe
You've found a life anew
I want much more than in this ground

You'd have done all within your power
If nature gave you such an power
If you could understand spoken word
"I love you" is the last thing you heard

So reach for me if you're out there
I'll have you in my heart
If I find a life I'll be waiting
As I'm sure you'll be anticipating

Meanwhile, go do what you did best
Discover and bring more joy
The sun in this life shines on you
Nature will take care of the rest.

I understand how deeply this pain is felt. My precious dog, Foxie, died a year ago today. I still feel her loss. Writing about her eased some of the pain. I hope the same is true for you. ML

John:  beautiful loving tribute to your Bonnie.  My two dogs passed this summer so I do understand.
