Little Ellie's Lie
~**~

Little Ellie loved to write...
But Little Ellie's family was too busy to read her work...

Finally Little Ellie had a plan...
For school was important...
So school they could not ignore...

"Mom, read this. It's for school," Little Ellie begged.
Mother dear must take time to help Little Ellie with homework...
For they did not know this was not true...

Little Ellie finally got help with her story...
And was read by her family...

But, Uh-ho...
Parents ask what grade she got on it...
Little Ellie must come up with something believable...
Little Ellie never did school homework...
This they did not know...
They did know Little Ellie grades were descent anyway...

But Little Ellie was too much of a critique of herself...
"I got an F," was Little Ellie's final answer.

Little Ellie's parents were angry...
They knew she worked hard...
They planned to talk with the teacher...
But Little Ellie talked them out of it...
And so Little Ellie got away with it...

With her story read...
And the attention she wanted...

Author's Notes:
You might not think a little girl being so into writing that when her family wouldn't read her early work in life she'd lie and say it was for school then say she got an F, but I did. This story is true, and my family really was angry when I told them I got a bad grade. They thought I had worked so hard I deserved an A. So they were going to talk to my teacher when none of my lie was true. I stopped them thank goodness and they still don't know to this day what I did, but I remember. They still don't have time to read my stuff.
This write of Little Ellie may not be all that funny but I wrote it not because it was funny. I wrote it because it's a sort of strange thing for a little girl to do. I thought it would be interesting.

...and now we know the rest of the story and reason you were drawn to this site... a ready-made family with poetic minds who love to read new poems and eagerly give an honest response without thinking about it twice...welcome HOME!

Very intriguing story, to think a little girl would be so smart is somewhat astonishing. At least it goes to show you, your parents believed in your talent, even if they couldn't see what was right in front of them the entire time. Good story E~

This is a sweet story.. you are a great writer, its a shame your family has no time to appreciate that.  Sometimes when there is something I have written that I really want my mom to read, I tell her I just want her to proof read it for me because it is for a poetry contest. lol. Truth is I don't want her to know that sometimes I think my writing is worth sharing.
