Her Eyes for a Moment
I think my heart is frozen now,‭ ‬and fey‭;
It moves me not at all to grief nor joy.
Around me,‭ ‬loved ones crumble loose,‭ ‬and they
Are like the stones I shattered as a boy‭―
Their ghosts remain upright and pale,‭ ‬and sway,
But when I should be sorrowful and bleed,
I close my eyes against their wisps,‭ ‬and pray,
For absence now is all I seem to need.
In monolithic halls I sleep,‭ ‬and stray,
As if I,‭ ‬too,‭ ‬were wandering past death‭;
I fold my hands in mortared stone,‭ ‬and clay,
And watch the misty coiling of its breath.
I sing when I am lonely now,‭ ‬and play,
While watching all I value fail and fall.
If any reach for me,‭ ‬I smile,‭ ‬and say,
‭"‬You silly child‭―‬there's no one here at all.‭"
I think my heart is wild and cold,‭ ‬and fey,
As I am fey,‭ ‬though bound here I must stay‭;
I am the ice of winter's coldest day,
And if a Hell exists,‭ ‬I know the way.

I am the ice of winterís coldest day,
