Faded Signal

I stand before you
Broken and battered
Only to discover
You stand before me
Untouched and clean
Only to discover
I could wave a flag
I could fire a gun
I could slap myself
I could scream
A hero is revered
But only disposable
You said it all
Every other week

Now I'm here
You haven't a word
I'm left to wonder
If it was even you

Did you care?
Did you know?
Did you realize?
Did you notice?

All your beauty
Infiltrated my thoughts
While visions of Hell
Surrounded my shell

You spoke of care
Pen to paper means little
As I'm here now
And you're nothing

Can you hear me now?
Can you see me now?
Can you sense it now?
Can you even care?

The voice that raised for care
Has lowered to but a whimper
Maybe the view of past
Will clear that of the unexpected

I'm glad you see me now
As we connect as one
I'm glad you hear me now
As you see what I've become

Take your bow
Take this ending
Take me with you
Take heed

All too late
