Feeling as if I couldn't try
All these years have now flown by
Twenty years and I've seen no change
Nothing to see could be strange

The next ten years I don't know
Where all of the wasted time will go
Ten years later maybe I'll die?
If not another ten to watch fly by

Going nowhere seems pretty nice
Nothing touches me that could entice
Increasingly stagnant but not standing still
Never finding anything to elicit a thrill

Feeling for flame but only feeling cold
Seeking exuberance but only feeling old
Clock seems slower but time still flies
At this point I wonder why anyone tries

All that's changed has gotten worse
Not by unknown means or cryptic curse
Just been too long and seen too much
The gift of life should be treated as such

What was a gift is now just a shell
An extended stay in a slow burning Hell
What was interest is now apathetic
A worsening pain with no anesthetic

Said in the past I'd never see this
I'd never treat life as I would an abyss
Now abysmal describes the wall I've met
Seen the worst of days but never regret

All the potential still instilled in me
Seems to drift with the care I've set free
Many would give all to relive this age
To have another shot at turning the page

If age brings wisdom what have I to learn?
Should the fires of old have fuel to burn?
I feel as if I've done and heard it all
As if the inevitable should answer the call

Nothing in the past seems to inspire
Everything present day seems to only tire
Living in a world with a future so bleak
Living seeming so young yet so antique

There is only one true path left to choose
For a man like me whose lost all his use
Another sentiment I'd never even dream
Another roadblock in my dwindling scheme

Yet a roadblock should be much more austere
The very notion of this path I hold dear
Yet to others it seems so grim and proscribed
Staring blankly as last words are transcribed

What will happen when this path does end?
What benefits do the completion send?
If any more than now then I've chosen right
If any less there will be no feeling contrite

For it's all unknown for a reason unheard
As the life I've known has proven absurd
At least I have no one to disgrace
Now I take my leave without a trace
