The Ally That Never Was

Where was your friend
When the sun sank too low
When the day lost it's glow
When the vultures prepared?

Where was your friend
When you just couldn't try
When the good things died
When you were most scared?

Reach to your friend
When you find your way
When your pain is delayed
When the burden is small

Curse at your friend
When you lose all hope
When they cut the rope
When your temple falls

Who is to blame for your misery?
Who gets credit for success?
When logic ends you find heresy
And fortune ends this duress

Everything hasn't been so great
Your friend's name always spoken
The pain just seems to recreate
The illusion of trust is broken

Ending it all

Where is your friend now?
Now you slip to despair
Now the map isn't there
Now the walls start to close

Where is your friend now?
Now you realize it's true
Now burn the map you drew
Now live the life you chose

Bury your friend
As the haze starts to clear
As you realize your fear
As the sun starts to rise

Forget your friend
As you open temple doors
End inquisition forevermore
End the cognizant demise
