I Am First

Institution seeks your will...

Substitute free will for the pain
Such desperate measures to keep you sane
Hands of the clock seem slower yet
Getting clean is no safe bet

May become the only way out
The confusion fills your head with doubt
Walk through the institution doors
Free thought will become a chore

Hands rotating slower as you waste away
Kin looks down as you write the day
Looking up only to see what you were
New day will dawn, of that you're sure

Cast off the crutch, they expect praise
They let you sink past the ugly haze
Just to lie and say God is first
And not knowing him is what hurts the worst

Pious eyes
Never realize
Effort expelled by will

From afar
Vision of the bar
Visions you try to kill

Leave the sanctity in the dust
Through the doors you will bust
Into the world which you recall
Only laughed when you would fall

Fairy tales only mask the hurt
An inanimate ghost can always desert
Desert you in your time of need
Now the best advice you hear, you heed

You are first, you decide
Whether to attack or whether to hide
The choice is yours, not some institution
Willpower is the logical solution

Institution seeks your will
Subdue to the unforgiving chill
Or face the cold and last the night
The easiest answer isn't always right

Great write. Meaningful and such truth in your words that they inspired even me! We all try to choose the right choice, yet always in the end think it was the wrong one. I find that putting myself first is always the answer. the means to an end only the demons we all have inside can fight. No one but us can change us. A lesson I learned long ago... When many went the other way, and are now long gone..

Within is the answer.. All one has to do is look there and it will come out...

So loved this piece, thanks for sharing..
