SHAME

Oh what a shame it is

to let the good times disappear,

Such a shame

to hide from your shadow out of fear.

Reluctant to discuss

what you don’t want to hear.

What a shame to let your worst memories reappear.

Shame they’ll say now that you’ve been asked to leave.

You focus on the cloud above

instead of in her eyes,

lest you remember

those words you told were lies.

How can you to see an angel

if you’re acting like a fool.

Opposing good neighbors living by the rule,

behaving weirdly cause others think it’s cool.

Wasting time hoping silently

for new days of the past.

Spending summer days

drawing circles in the grass.

Reaching out uneasily for nothing within your grasp.

Friends since long ago felt that you were freed at last.

No one else is here today,

must be strange love to my dismay.

Who’s that talking about the roads end,

Angel, is that you, or just my peers again?

I walked into my painting,

too foolish for some to mention.

No one was there waiting,

so I kept right on going.

Too ashamed to believe there would ever be another,

You have indeed enlightened me, thank you all forever.
