An Eerie Stillness Shrouds the Garden

An eerie stillness shrouds the garden

Wind chimes sway but no melody floats forth

Hummingbirds and butterflies take refuge behind

    Large garden shrubs

My furry-fuzzy dogs, ears perked, stand at attention

Zig zag lightning dominates the sky

An eerie stillness shrouds the garden

Glittery mist forms a curtain near my patio table

I sip my creamy coffee and observe

The sky darkness melts into various shades of blue

A shape begins to materialize in the misty curtain

An eerie stillness shrouds the Garden

My dogs sit as the Wraith approaches the table

the wraith smiles, says hello and sits at the    table

I calmly welcome him and enquire about his visit

He says he wanted to visit a calm place where he would be accepted for a few hours

We chat, share coffee, and enjoy a coffee break

In time

Too soon, the wraith smiles and says he must be gone

I tell him he is always welcome at my dwelling

The wraith shakes my hand, smiles and walks to

The mist

As his glittery shape dissolves, he whispers

I shall return

an eerie stillness shrouds the garden

Author's Notes:
Miss Alison Storm Wolf's poem got me thinking and here is a "wraith" from my garden....

Spooky and interestingly, for me, had different levels of meaning.

Wow. At least he didn't invite you to join him. If he does, you must remember that you have to stay here. You hear me? You HAVE to stay here! ML

A wonderful, image laden write Lady D., might the wraith be an early visit from old man winter?  Henry

Though you welcomed the wraith, I had serious inhibitions for you Lady!Always take caution when you invite an entity to drop by any time...!!! :o)

Beautifully woven Lady D.

...had me convinced!....

interesting, i enjoyed your phrasing very much...gentle alliteration and imagery that paints a 3-D backyard view.  and through its beauty an "eerie stillness" sprouting from within the lines as well, giving this an interesting atmosphere. nicely written.

This is the best of what I read of yours so far. New words, arrangement, balance,  mystery, deep and meaningful. I also sat at your coffee table and winked a congrats, for you have handled the situation well.
