Nothing is ever wholly ours, just little parts
of our strengths, our weaknesses our hearts.
When we open our arms to love with someone,
we project a cross-like shadow of crucifixion,
and when we want to embrace our happiness,
instead we crush it into shared possessiveness
transforming our emotions into strange forces
of heartbreaking pain and of branding divorces.

No such thing as everlasting love and joy.

Her life seems to resemble these unarmed soldiers
that have been all dressed up for another destiny.
Armed awakenings watching over their shoulders
projected into every new dayís battle with reality,
only to return deceived, disarmed, for another night.
Uncertain of what all this means, you close your eyes
you hold back the tears, in dreams you fight.

Itís too late by the time it takes to learn living,
for loving hearts to weep all night long.
How much forgiveness before turning the page,
sadness before hearing another love song,
countless tears before flying from our cage?
Til then itís the pain of your love Iíll be feeling.

Love, my sweet lost love, why have you gone astray?
I feel like a broken wing struggling to fly away,
to later look down peacefully at all who have cried,
for beautiful blues eyes which sparkled and died.
No such thing as an everlasting joy of love.

Author's Notes:
5 years after the divorce. "Nothing is ever wholly ours" a line I read somewhere a long time ago that I have never forgotten. I think it's something mother wrote but I'm not sure.

Dedicated to those that have been through it also to future ones who will have to live it.

Dear Raymond:  Very moving poem.  Nicely written.  I just figured out how to read yours and the others poetry.  This site is hard to navigate.  Will read more. Much Love, Janjan xoxo

Very sad words here Raymond, even sadder that so many live this everyday and lose their faith in love as a result of it! I choose to keep believing in romance because without that hope, you have little or nothing! Told from the heart Raymond, excellent work!   Henry

Powerful, yet again,  Raymond...and  I could feel the anguish and the unanswered questions...

Who  knows what happens along the way...

Love, at times, can hurt deeper than anything  else...but it can also be what heals the broken heart. I pray you can find that healing...

Hugs to you, my friend...

This is very true

Love is never as good as it's made out to be

I really like this poem

Hopefully i'll be able to write poetry

as great as this one day.

This is so poignant.  It is beautiful in a haunting, heart wrenching way.  Well penned and very touching.  It made me feel sad.

Broken relationships are always difficult to come to terms with in our lives. You  have so beautifully expressed this within each line. I especially loved these lines:

Love, my sweet lost love, why have you gone astray?
I feel like a broken wing struggling to fly away,

A sad and poignant write Raymond.

Brilliant poem straight from your wisdom heart..
I have to confess I read it three times to get the whole picture.. Life is strange .. always changing scattered like Autumn leaves on a windy day in the fall ...We all have had our share of sorrow
So sorry for your loss ....she must have had lovely blue eyes.. Perhaps one day love will smile on your face again...
Texas sends a hug to make you feel better

I really really love this such truth in every word
"I feel like a broken wing struggling to fly away,"  That line just descripes how I have felt so often love the expression in that line.  Excellent write one which I really enjoyed reading
