Touching Hearts

Touching Hearts

Isn’t that why we poets do what we do?

We attempt to see beyond the classic view.

Then we share what wonders we have found.

What a glorious beauty there is all around.

Often we see the terrible cruelty of mankind.

And we shout out, “Are we not all entwined!?”

We’ve a deep desire to have a positive impact.

And we wonder how our world is still intact.

Our words plead to slow down and smell the roses.

And to see the beauty that is right under our noses.

After all it is always good to slow down the pace.

As we unwind, we try to forget about the rat race.

Also we write for inner cleansing of the mind.

Out with the bad of the daily bump and grind.

We tend to sip our coffee and tea very slowly.

And our quiet time is considered sacred and holy.

But ultimately, the goal of every poet is clear.

The intent is to touch the hearts of those dear.

If just one life in this world has been made better,

Worthy was every line, every word and every letter.

Author's Notes:
Often we're uncertain for what purpose it is that we write.
We may never find out the entire affect that our presence has on others.

Remember "It's A Wonderful Life"?
The angel Clarence was right when he told George Bailey,
"Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives.
When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?"

I want my life to be like that!

We may consider what we do to be insignificant.
But each of us touches the hearts and lives of everyone we encounter.
