The Earth is poisoned
It searches for protection
To no avail it seeks
Drowning in it's retention

Society is dying
It searches for an out
But nobody cares
To the stars they shout

Kill off this pain with fear
They're closing in from afar
They are not really there
Just a lie for a job subpar

Kill off the inquisitive mind
Suggesting alternative thought
They haunt with the rising level
Another freethinker is caught

Just a cry to save a star
Just a cry to save an institution
Nobody cries for truth
Nobody cries for a resolution

Just a cry to save the individual
Just a cry to save the wants
Nobody cries for the people
Nobody cries for the problem that haunts

The problem is there
In everyone's face
Escape with the madness
Get out of this place

This land of the free
This home of the brave
The platitudes have frozen
The way we behave

We act as one
In times of despair
Why can't we maintain
When calm fills the air?

The reason is clear
We've past proverbial prime
The society is dying
And it's closing time.

Author's Notes:
Society's total reluctance to face the problems it creates head on and to find a solution.
