Breaking the Waves
The waves break,
And here I stand.
Wet sand pressed beneath my feet.
Blue and beryl,
Stretching beyond sight,
Reaching for the horizon,
And further;
To the distant shores.

Here the waves find you too.
This vast expanse separates us;
And my heart beats with their crashing rhythm.
In and out.
Stand there my love and listen
To my heart beat for you.
I call out your name
And let the waters carry it to your shores.

This is my message in a bottle;
Sailing on my beating heart.
The sea is long, be patient dear.
For as deep as the waters are,
My love is deeper.
It fills the underwater caves
And rises with the tides.
It swells with the spring rains.

Not long from now
On a skin-browning day,
With laughing children, sunbathing women;
A day of splashing and mighty castles,
You will hear my heart beat on the shore,
Calling out your name.
