Quantification

How do you measure love?

By miles traversed,

By bills paid?

By noise,

By ploys?

By force of passion,

By willingness to compromise?

By pleasure given,

By hardship endured?

By years,

By tears?

By wounds inflicted,

By wounds healed?

Or by words dispatched to infinity?

Heike.  This is an interesting work,  Did you decide what the correct answer is?  Oh that love were that easy to define.

I don't know...Love seems to mean different things to different people. I do not understand falling out of love. To me love is a life long condition.

Great piece, Heike. All of these lines offer food for thoughts about the true meaning of love. This is a poem worth lingering over, and one which has more than its brevity might suggest.

Good question!  but i would say none of these is a measure of love..Love would find a way out of all these things two working as one is a problem shared and halved...These are burdens when one struggles without help.being taken for granted..Love on the other hand is....???....Err!!!

You might as well ask how you measure infinity. LOve is not a measurable commodity. YOu know it or you don't....:o)...len

Does anyone really know the answer?

People have their personal answers deep within themselves, but these are powerful questions

Great thought provoking write!

Exactly....these are the very questions I've asked about love in some of my poems too. These are wonderful, thoughtful questions Heike and I believe that love is made up of all of the bits mentioned in this poem and many MORE. I really enjoyed this...so timely a post for me too as I ponder love... thank you so much for sharing. BRAVO!
