I Smell a Rat
I have mice in the house
Yet not one I fear
Catnip is the stimulus
That causes chaos here
His eyes are black and beady
Round ears, enormous and pink
An influence without a squeak
He's lost his voice, I think
The yellow one is Sisal
Rope wraps his tiny form
Chewed ears and crooked whiskers
Have now become the norm
Small eyes full of innocence
Tail twisted in a knot
His pointed nose is kissable
Whoever would have thought
Polyester is rotund
With bristled fuzzy bod
The absence of appendages
Makes him appear quite odd
The misfit lacks expression
No whiskers, mouth or eyes
Only a bulbous pom-pom nose
That's thrice the normal size
Egg Roll's body is misshapen
But soft, like cozy slippers
His red felt ears, impressive
Have never heard a whisper
With silver bell on satin tail
A black yarn mouth, so tiny
He outshines his mousy pals
With feathers on his heiney
Rodents now surround me
Day to day they're scattered
Underfoot and strewn about
Bitten, clawed, and tattered
I know their kind is harmless
But I think I smell a rat
For I didn't have a single mouse
Until I got the cat

Hey Barbara,

Thank you for the many chuckles i had while reading this delightful funny work!  My brother and his wife had bought them selfs some tame rats who lived in a big cage in their living-room.  But finally these three guy's ended up living with us.  Mars, Twix and Skittles they were called....

Greetings: a still chuckling Peter

We have a cat also, when the front door opens in the morning, one is confronted by an abattoir!

Funny stuff here B.

The best example of "squeak speak" I've heard in a long time. :o))

There's nothing wrong with the occasional foray into the world of balderdash, and as such things go this is a delightful example of the genre. I particularly liked some of the ingenious rhyming, such as the use of "bod" and "hinny". (Although I think the latter should be "heiney", unless the "black yarn mouth" is tinny, lol)

This brought a smile to my face. Nice work, Barbara.
