Shadow of denial

Broken inside
nobody knows
for I hide behind this smile

Secrets spilling
from tortured dreams
 is my exit from denial

Then there is the darkness
That covers me whole

Like a wicked blackness
 to take away my soul

All my anger
All my tears
Welled up deep inside

Left alone
With all my fears
I tried once to hide

Hatred burns
Within my vein
the needle takes its toll

Behind my smile
I slip back insane
the drugs are in control

Not a single memory
There is nothing left
to feel

Behind my wall
of silence
is my shadow made of steel

Hiding behind the shadow of denial surely can be fatal. Sooner or later we all have to face our demons...best to do it sooner than later.

When the pain inside is more than the heart and soul can stand, there has to be an outlet or a catharsis of some sort. Many take the "needle" or "pill" or "alcohol" escape, as it's all that can work to ease the pain.  Denial is what we all do because if it's not a reality, we don't have to deal with it.

Great write, Fletch...

my smile is fake
deep downs whats real
look me in the eye
to know how i feel
but you must make a promise
one that you must keep
for my happiness and joy
is only skin deep
looking further
is a painful cost
because behind my smile
all emotion is lost

great write
I loved this poem
It expresses this feeling all too well

Oh, I really don't know what to say as I know some of the feelings you have penned. This is very good but so sad. It's so easy to read and flows but it's made me think. Thankyou for sharing.

Take care

~Mahalarose
