The Holly and the Ivy

Now the Holly King shall rule
And the world  at merry Yule
To his  woodland court all gaily throng
Praising him  with Fire and Song.
At the rising of the sun
See new light  appear
Watch the baby boy king grow and run
To rule the coming year

Beside his Ivy Queen
He stands in royal  green
Adorned with berries    red and bright -
Blood he shed at Litha's fight.
At the rising of the sun
See new light  appear
Watch the baby  boy king grow and run
To rule the coming year

Into  battle will he go
When  sun descends too low.
And sacrifice his blood to gall
To bring back light for all.
At the rising of the sun
See new light  appear
Watch the baby  boy king grow and run
To rule the coming year

Now will this boy  King Oak
Take up the  regal cloak
To rule for all in Holly's stead,
Till at Litha  his blood's shed.
At the rising of the sun
See new light  appear
Watch the baby  boy king grow and run
To rule the coming year

Oh the midnight  deed is done,
When world has lost its sun,
All night we  keep Yule's  flame alive
To bring new days for Oak to thrive.
At the rising of the sun
See new light  appear
Watch the baby  boy king grow and run
To rule the coming year

If  at this time of year,
You know despair and fear
Just look beneath Oak's mistletoe
Love and kiss and gaily go.
At the rising of the sun
See new light  appear
Watch the baby  boy king grow and run
To rule the coming year
