Look into the burning mirror

If you're not afraid of its hellfire laughter

You've never been at the heart of things

Too many considerations blocking the way

Bright spots of fear

Black caverns of shame

If you look closely

There's light in the ground

And amid the spires justice still stands tall

If you missed the vocational training*

You will have to bear the uncertainty

Of each chiming hour

"Be good, be bad, just be"

Again, the stones are wiser than you are

Part the clouds in good faith

Draw a green breath

Then wander on

\"Be good, be bad, just be\". I think this is a phrase I will internalize, and try to stop being so self-critical. Wonderful work, as usual.

Beautiful, always beautiful celebrating creative individuals and places that provoke creativity

I didn't know that about Leipzig. I wonder how this training goes. I wonder if I'd want to be trained to become a poet or a writer of fiction...

fantastic Heiki!

In the first three stanzas I was given an inner vision...
such was the power...
the last two stanzas speak to me of the need to just keep going...yes, we all need to draw a green breath
Love your work

Very interesting work, Heike, full of allusion and fascinating images. Is the "burning mirror" a reference to the invention of an array of mirrors by Archimedes which, when directed so that they reflected the heat of the sun, are said to have been able to burn the boats of invaders? I get the impression that this poem is about cities and, by extension, people having the ability to come to terms with their dark past and face the future with hope and faith in the future. I love the line "Be good, be bad, just be". Good advice. Good poem.

I came, I read, I don't understand it all but it provokes images of a struggle toward wisdom. So I believe I'll just draw a breath and wander on to find that light in the ground. jp

Just being in the presence of places like that carries with it the aura

of greatness. I've been in Germany but never in Leipzig.

I would like to go some day. This is a very interesting poem.
