Lost

Lost

Although not at all alone, he has many family and friend.

One can still be alone in a room full of people, it was once penned.

Like a scared young boy, lost in the forest dark and deep.

He fears the shadows and the scary creatures that may creep.

The cold dark night seems to ensnare his every thought.

In a cave he shivers, his mind, grief stricken and distraught.

Exhausted, he closes his eyes and finally falls asleep.

His dreams filled with turmoil causes his eyes to weep.

Then someone comes along, seeing the fear in his eyes.

They have been lost before, and know the reason he cries.

They stay with him through the night, because they understand.

Holding him tightly to calm his fears, they hold onto his hand.

As daybreak comes, sunlight pierces the night.

The sun is comforting because it is so bright.

This caring stranger now leads him into the light.

He knows now, that everything will be alright.

Finally safe, hes not alone any more.

No longer need he fear as he had done before.

And just like the lost boy, I too was lost in the gloom.

Then came a stranger and a friendship started to bloom.

Author's Notes:
My Goodness!!!  What on earth would we do without them???

Interesting fact about this write...  While writing this poem my crew and I responded to three back to back suicide threats/attempts...  All 3 were young men (21 to 25 years of age)...  This makes me ponder; if they just had a friend who would comfort and love them while they are lost in the dark night, could they have been lead back into the daylight???  If you are a friend, you should be close enough to be able to feel their heart beat...

Ham you are like a beautiful flower that lets others reach for the sun. This poem reduced me to tears and now black mascara is running down my face mixed with so much sadness. Yes if they had a friend with them they might have been able to reach them and support them back to the light. I must put this one in my favs for you sure are one hell of a guy

And aren't we all lost in the gloom from time to time...alone in a room full of people.
I imagine it is our inner perception...not the outer welcome which is most oft to blame.

Excellent write up Hammy...I liked the part about holding his hand through the night...heartwarming...if everyone did that for one soul just onec  in their lives, would tanyone in this world be lonely?

Very articulate and enjoyable poem my friend.

Hugs,
Pamela

You have spoken wisely here Ham. A true friend is invaluable. I cherish my friends and hoard them as a miser hoards his gold. This poem contains lovely sentiments. I commend you for the wonderful work you are doing, you are a true friend to the world, a life saver in a time when we often need to be saved from ourselves. Bravo to you Ham.

Great truth in this write, Ham. True friends will be close enough to feel the heartbeat of another. I cannot stand to see another person hurting...and will always try and be there to pull them through, if at all possible.

Hugs and good write.

How true this is, Ham! Friends are life saviors. I know this from personal experience. My best friend never leaves my side and holds my hand in my moments of grief and pain till he is sure I am back on my feet again.
Friendship helps your spirit bloom. It is like the first rays of sunlight shining brightly after a long dark night.
