Letting Go
You give them birth.
You give them life.
You tuck them in and kiss them goodnight.
Your dreams are big.
Your wishes are small,
just be happy, that's all
You think you can protect them from life's horrors.
You love them so much.
You watch them grow.
You have trouble letting go.
And now they've grown
Everything you feared came true.
You thought you'd die.
You couldn't breathe.
A part of you died as you grieve
The loss of your sons.
The precious gift God gave he took away.
You gave them everything you had
and as you grieve you wish you had
Loved them more.
The decisions they made,
The path they chose,
You had no control
Your only choice
Let go.
Author's Notes:

My deep pain of losing my boys to a lifestyle I never thought they'd tread. Don't know which is a better title  "Letting Go" or "Let them Fall"?

Letting go IS a demonstration of love...better to let them fall than to enable them. I have an awesome verse about letting go that I had to read many times while learning how to let go...if you would like I will be happy to send it to you. The last stanza is rich with information and something every mother must learn in her own time. Simply said and very heartfelt piece Helen.

I think you choose the title correctly, "letting them go"

I don't have children so it's truly hard for me to fully understand the emotions you must feel. However, this is a really moving poem and a gripping write.

Hugs Helen.

I feel the pain of this piece. But remember, if you love someone let them go and if they return to you, they truly love you as well. I know it's hard to love the individual regardless of their activities or lifestyle but, it helps tremendously.

Best wishes,

I feel your heartbreak Helen, you do all you can, teach them right from wrong, but once they leave your door it all comes down to how they handle peer pressure. All you can do is hope they make good decisions. I hope all goes well for you Helen.   Henry

Which ever title you use, I can feel your pain in every line and clear to the depths of my soul, as I'm going through some of the same stuff with my own son.  If you ever need a listening ear...holler, and I'll give you a phone number.

Sending heartfelt hugs and deep understanding of whre you're coming from...

Letting go is so very hard whatever the reason, but especially when it is beyond your control, the hurt and pain are none the less, as parents we are only a guide and the final choice as to their path is theirs be it right or wrong, time is the healer and may it lay kindly for you.

My heart is out to you dear lady......I know this all too well.....My youngest daughter is 18 and has turned to a life of no good.......Ya try to raise them with morals and values and knowing right from wrong, you love then dearly, more than life itself, you show that love daily, you go through anything for them, you just want them to be happy, have a great life and be caring and responsible adults when they grow up....and we as mothers wonder "where did we go wrong."......It was as though a big part of me died when I had to just let go, let her be, and sad to say, let her fall......I went through so very much pain trying to get her to do right to no avail.....finally the law says "Penny, just let her go."......I cried for days, I still do....I miss her..I worry all the time, but what else do we mothers know to do.......I just pray that I don't lose her to death....although it hurts as much....My prayers are with you and any parent going through this. God bless you dear.

Love & Hugs,
