A LETTER NO SEVENTEEN

A LETTER NO SEVENTEEN

My dearest darling

Life can be so cruel at times

For I miss you so

Your letters come so slowly, yet my longing for you grows

I shall be leaving tomorrow

I have my equipment ready, not much really

A new rifle, it shoots a .50 calibre ball

Which they say will bring an elephant down

Powder, lead for making shot and a blanket

Not much my darling

However, out here you do not need much

Life is so simple, none of the constraints of civilized man

I went out with the dog yesterday and my helper

Try out the rifle, quite an experience seen, as my side is still a bit tender

Spent most of the day just roaming over the land

Magnificent country it is

I am starting fall in love with it

A deep burning in my soul that I cannot get rid off

Perhaps one day this may be our new home

Here in deep dark Africa

I am hoping that a letter may arrive today

Sometimes they arrive by a lonely traveler other times by wagon

Days, months sometimes

Take care of yourself my darling

Always

Your Love
