Swansong
The days grow short, the shadows long
Difficult as this is, you must be strong
Shed not a single tear for me
I am in a place where I must be
Please read these words after I go
May they comfort you and you'll know
I have battled age and disease
An unbeatable foe, the two of these
Through it all I always felt your love
You were my blessing from above
A beacon that held darkness at bay
The one who chased rainclouds away
You could brighten my darkest mood
Kept me in line when I was rude
Though I wasn't perfect, you loved me still
In your mind and heart you always will
Though I may be in another place
I will be the wind in your hair, a smile on your face
Until it's time for you to be again at my side
Have a wonderful life babe, enjoy the ride
A peace has come to me, they'll be here ere long
These are my last words, my swansong

A brilliantly comforting swansong indeed! It would be such a gift if those loved ones left behind could receive a penning such as this. Although it speaks of a sad event, I found this to be filled with a kind of relief to be free of earthly ties that can be so damn heavy at times! I really enjoyed this.
