Has the world fallen so far?
Has the darkness covered all?
When you see someone crying on the street
Do you stop your feet,
To give comfort to their suffering?
Or do you continue on
Turning a blind eye to their tears of blood?
So encased in yourself
Not wanting to add to your own pain?
Have we become so selfish,
Caring only for money and our self?
Has our empathy dried up
Under the heat of Sol?
Is this what civilization means?
That we ignore each other?
The heavens weep for our callused souls.
Blinded by our own importance
When tragedy strikes your neighbor
All his earthy treasure gone up in flames.
Do you open up your house?
Do you offer to help him get back upon his feet?
Or do you laugh at his misfortune?
Glad the arson passed you by.
Why do we find entertainment
Within someone else’s tragedy?
We lust after the bad news on the tube
Saying “Ha, at least it wasn’t me!”
You blind and foolish humans!
When tragedy comes knocking on your door
Ask your selves these questions.
Who will come to comfort you?
Who will aide you in your time of need?
Who will lift you from the darkness?
Then remember how you laughed
At those upon the news
Who lost, who hurt, who suffered.
Then despair for now life has come full circle
No one will hear you cry.
