Fallen World

Has the world fallen so far?

Has the darkness covered all?

When you see someone crying on the street

Do you stop your feet,

To give comfort to their suffering?

Or do you continue on

Turning a blind eye to their tears of blood?

So encased in yourself

Not wanting to add to your own pain?

Have we become so selfish,

Caring only for money and our self?

Has our empathy dried up

Under the heat of Sol?
Is this what civilization means?
That we ignore each other?

The heavens weep for our callused souls.

Blinded by our own importance

Looking inward

Believing lies

Ignoring truth

When tragedy strikes your neighbor

All his earthy treasure gone up in flames.

Do you open up your house?

Do you offer to help him get back upon his feet?

Or do you laugh at his misfortune?

Glad the arson passed you by.

Why do we find entertainment

 Within someone else’s tragedy?

We lust after the bad news on the tube

Saying “Ha, at least it wasn’t me!”

You blind and foolish humans!

When tragedy comes knocking on your door

Ask your selves these questions.

Who will come to comfort you?

Who will aide you in your time of need?

Who will lift you from the darkness?

Then remember how you laughed

At those upon the news

Who lost, who hurt, who suffered.

Then despair for now life has come full circle

No one will hear you cry.

Author's Notes:
There is a scene in the anime Boogiepop phantom, where one guy is standing waiting for his gril friend. He notices this guy kneeling in the middle of the sidewalk. People turn their heads and continue to walk, some laugh as they pass by. Then this oddly dressed fellow (who just happens to be Boogiepop supernatural protector), bends down, stands up and shouts at the people " Do you people seek to do nothing when you see a fellow human crying? Is this what the advancement of civilization has led to? I find it appalling" That touched my heart, and this poem is born.
Apparently, len thinks i'm preaching a sermon from a soapbox. "We lust after..." I thought i was included in the we. I also used the word ourself, which applies to me as well. I am guilty of doing the same stuff in this poem. I am not preaching a sermon I am stating what I see in me and others. There len, does that make you happy? I had to explain that We, ourselves, humans, applies to me as well. I thought that it would be self evident but i guess not.

Ya know, usually I get pretty turned off whenever someone gets on a soap box and starts preaching shop-worn cliches at me...and this time is no different..What you say is true..Many people don't give a rat's behind about the next guy, butt, we've all heard this a thousand times in a thousand different ways...yer pal, len
