What a peculiar thing, a friendship is.
Peculiar that a few simple words can
demolish demons, annihilate anguish,
situate a smile, on lips that tremble.
Peculiar, in that the entirety of the world
and all the things that try and sink you to the bottom
are no match for a friendship.

Human privation, answered, in the sculpture
of another human's heart.
A nesting place for wound licking,
a sanctuary for our bones when they get too weary
to carry the load alone.
A madrigal, so that your singular voice has accompaniment.

Astounding, to feel the hands and heart  of caring;
amazing, to secure that which you can get nowhere else.
Thank you, for bestowing this wealth upon me.
Thank you.

I loved this from the first line to the last. Friends are the most important things we have, yes we have families and they are important, but it's our friends who we turn to when things at home go wrong. This is winging its way to my faves. Thanks youme, from one safety net to another.

Whomever did this for you Barbie, I am glad they did. You have written a beautiful poem about friends, and everyone needs to have friends. Someone to confide in or just to laugh with to blow off some of the pressures of the day. Bravo to you Barbie!       Henry

True friendship is a beautiful thing and over the years becomes a part of oneself, as you have stated so wonderfully.

Ah yes...there is little more heartwrenching and depressing than being alone...especially when one is downtrodden and feeling low.  Thank goodness for the warmth of kindness, love, friendship, compassion, sympathy, empathy...

Beautifully written Barbara
