Backstabber

Try and try as I must
I will make it through
the unfairly-weathered storm

Through rain pouring like a lovesick teen,

Sleet bouncing off windshields like bullets

and snow that even a mailman couldn’t traverse
I will travel into the distance…

Against all resistance

Even when I trip and fall hard on my face
I will get up again
and not be defeated.

When I am beaten down, fettered and whipped
I will lay unconscious and unmoving

Until again I can move

Struggle through it still, as if I were addicted
I will hobble my way true

into the distance

And when I lay in a bloody mess

I can blame you all

You have taken me for granted

How many more times

can someone stab me, stab me, stab me,

stab me, stab…

before it doesn’t hurt

Maybe you can just leave the knife in my back

At least then I can finish the job like a trained assassin
And die, yet again, in peace

You all have done nothing for me but cause unwanted pain

And take what I have to give…
You give me nothing but a knife in return

It screams my name louder with every passing minute
