The Wall of War

The mood so set with mourning tone,
name's honor lost unbound
For thousands spirits lost their lives
for freedoms yet unfound.
A timely war which not our own
plunged thousands to their deaths
Our loss a tone so crudely sung
with hymn of freedom's breath.
A wall so black portraying loss,
reaching to heaven's height
Inlaid with spirits yet unseen
and lost from mortal's sight.
The loss so great,
respect so few,
honor's glint left unkept
For those who died will never know
the seas of tears we've wept.
As youth gazes upon the wall,
we just can't comprehend
To us life is an expectancy,
a trinket worn on hand.
A foreign word heard from hearsay,
a word passed down by tongue
Wars are heard but are not seen,
our ignorance to young.
To look upon the names here scribed,
to see the lack remorse
War sees no race, religion, sex
to steer it from its course.
The bodies lie so still,
so cold their faces locked in fear
A visage cast with child's eyes,
eternity's hold dear.
To die so young,
to live so brief
no futures light their sights
No mother's arms will hold their sons,
nor fathers share their might.
A war forgotten near by force,
a truth we've tried to flee
Humanity must come to know....
