Poor Mouse

i was once a poor mouse

writing minuscule poems

with black paw prints

i liked words more than cheese

so it was only natural

i would sup on the old dictionary in the attic

how was i to know

it was your favorite

i would write of your mysterious beauty

or the small reflection of swirling galaxies

on the shinning floorboards of midnight.

you could not read

the sonnets i wrote for you

so you deem me

inopportune --a bothersome pest...

But i write myself

a celbration of ink

and twirling  tail uncanny

ingenuity of words

that live beyond their maker...

you laid in wait for

i was a nascence

to your cool logic

the best laid plans

of mice and men often

end with a shivering snap

and as you attended my funeral

and burial in the waste paper basket

with a shrug

still the molecules

of my poems haunt you

down all the empty chambers

 of your life

and traps cannot end them

nor words contain them….
