This Autumn That You Have Given Me

Maker of sky,

creator of trees,

--giver of shapes.

you who are greater

than the tile i give you--

how you bless me

with this autumn

that you have given me.

i await your words in

the swarming leaves

 your magnificence

 in the curve of  gourds

in the portending golden corn

i dance in the confines

of my heart

for my feet cannot

 in the world outside

find their place or clever schemes..

Hay you have even set aside for the little sheep.

so deep in winter

they shall not call

thier hunger in the frozen air.

how in the morning

after prayer

 the jewels of the frost

 can not compare

with that of which

 i have feebly asked

for i cannot imagine

what you have left behind

to cover all

in crystal wisdom.

glisten as you write upon my being.

for you enrich me

with your lessons

and prairie  proverbs.

as little rams think of milk

and become lost to care

and the tenderness of pasture

turnns to frost and then to snow...

your words foretell

all that is good

gentle spoken

and shall never lose its spark

no matter how dark i paint the world

stars flow the liquid  skies

in evening tide

twinkling to stay warm

among their kind

For you who  allow the winter

to keep its sleep

and me to keep

my love awake--

a warmth uncluttered by desire

to thank  in simplicity

this autumn that you have given me.

A wonderfully penned and insightful piece this is, Andrew! An example of belief, beauty, and gratitude, which is so rare these days.
Into my favourites it goes :-).
