My Son
My son, know I love you.
In the long time we've know one another,
Never have we walked enough together.
Never have we shared enough good times.
Never could I ever have my fill of you.
From the first moment we met,
Before you could know who I was.
I loved you, I cherished you
Your uniqueness, the special way
You made your mom and I feel.
As a little boy you had no match,
Everywhere we went you did too.
You were always so thrilled to go.
Pictures of you are everywhere
As sweet memories in my mind.
One favorite of mine will always be
Of you on a bolder at McKittrick Canyon.
My how you loved the place.
Such a Huck Finn look is captured there,
Your future contained within that smile.
As life changed so much around you,
And things weren't always easy,
Your loyalty and love was always true.
Maybe you didn't always feel it,
We knew we could always count on you.
Now you're grown, so much on your own,
That same spirit of adventure within you.
You can do anything you want to.
We know you make hard choices,
Each day, have confidence to find your way.
Just work hard, save what you can,
Take your time, find someone you trust.
Then you'll find the rest and be your best.
As you go through life's ups and downs,
You'll know the comfort I found, in your eyes.

Ah, I love this poem... even though reading me made me feel guilty because I know that I don't give my parents enough of my time... We don't have a very perfect understanding, and I think they believe my younger bro "turned out" better, plus he spends more time with them because he's living with them again right now... I am far from being what they expected and I feel like I'm hiding from them because I don't agree with what they think my life should be... But I love them and I know they miss me and love me too...  I owe so much to them, all I know takes roots in what they taught me... I really wish I were a better daughter to them...

About the only time I see my 15 year old son is when I glimpse him coming out, or going to his bedroom with girlfried and or friends, these days..Seems like last week, I would open the front door after a hard day's work and see him bouncing up and down in his walker, so excied to see me..He's tuned into a kind young man, though..Old dad has no regreats...Nice one, Rich..I can sure relate to this one...len

This is a wonderful write to your son. With so many absent fathers and mothers it is so refreshing to know there are still great fathers around.
Gay-wishing she had such a great dad

This is so truly beautiful, that I know that he must be feeling on top of the world with your gift for him, Rich~! The love of Parent to Child is everlasting, and your poetry is a gem of a remembrance~
Wonderful words and work, Rich...
