Fashionably Late
Fashionably LateHave you ever heard of being fashionably late? What does that mean? I wonder, is it even possible to be fashionably late?My family and I are, almost, always late everywhere we go. We get up, get around, and try our best to be on time. We can even be running ahead of schedule and still end up late. Carolyn, Shantel, and I are late for church; we are late for school, and if we are going to a friend’s house; we are never on time. It is the same for our doctor’s appointments; actually it does not matter how hard Carolyn, Shantel, and I try; we just cannot get anywhere on time. Some people are never late. In fact, those people are usually early. I feel so sorry for people who are always early. Those people will never know the thrill of entering a room and immediately have everyone’s attention. My family and I know that feeling well—from the time we walk in to the church building until we sit down and blend in with the rest of the congregation, everyone has their eyes resting fully on us. My family has the undivided attention of the entire congregation. The people who are always early will never learn the correct way to enter a room; we who are latecomers know that a person must walk straight to his seat. We, latecomers look neither to our left nor to our right; we never speak to anyone, and we do not even smile at anyone when entering a room.People who are early think that they should make their way casually to their seats; they think a person should smile and shake everyone’s hand as they go by. What is all this amiable conversation about anyway? There is another thing about people who are always late; they are easily remembered. For instance when I was a kid I remember numerous times, that my Uncle and his entire family would come in after church had already begun. I cannot remember who else may have been there those days. But, I remember my Uncle and his entire family well. They would come in one or two at a time and never it seems all of them at the same time. If people want to be remembered they should just go places late and I guarantee they will be remembered well.Like I said, my family and I are almost always late. I suspect that when I die, the preacher will have to wait on me to arrive before he can begin my funeral. Will that be fashionably late?
Author's Notes:
When I was in College Ms. Cupp and I were talking about how some people are always late. I went home and wrote this; I wrote it from first hand experience, because we are late so often. I tell Carolyn that before I got married--I was never late and usually was early, but since getting married--I have never been on time even once. That is not the whole truth, but it is not nearly as big a lie as saying that we are always on time would be.

I am always an hour early. I can't stand the idea that I'm holding something up. If I'm rushed I get a headache and can't settle down and enjoy what ever it is I was late for. I like this piece keep em comin...friend Erma

Being late, to me, is not fashionable~! I believe it to be downright rude, my friend~ There "grand entrances" do not impress this old bag lady~!! I think that EVERYONE should learn from your posting, as it is clear and has a great message....
