Back To That Same Old Beach

By day I walk the hot beach sand
Watching as spirited waves stand
Then crash headlong into shore.
And with delight speak a mighty roar.

Yet above the exaltation of the waves
Careless laughter from those enslaved
Little children inside of us escape with glee
Own little waves as we crash headlong into sea.

By these things I know I am home, even if alone.
Back to that same old beach forever I've known.

Ah, the silky feel of salty sweet flows.
Texture of wet sand between my toes.
The pull of uncertain current around my feet.
Sensation of motion as waves retreat.

The wind's invisible fingers run through my hair
As kites and seagulls float blissfully in the air.
Our just yellow sun finds time to kiss my face.
How lucky I am to see this place.

Even if I am alone, these things tell me I am home.
Back to that same old beach forever I've known.

Night after night, I fish in the warm breeze
I look beyond the worn rock jetties
Into the shapeless and moving tide below.
A fish out of water, like those in the dark window.

I suspect our scratchy eyes both look above.
Our gift to appreciate the view of love
As the graceful goddess Venus
Dances near the crescent moon so luminous.

When I am alone, I so appreciate this home.
Back at that same old beach I've forever known.

Here nights are peaceful and seldom long.
I lay this warmed body down to ocean's song.
Yielding to the sensation of cotton sheets,
I swim on the tide of thoughts my mind gently greets.

As memories come and go like dolphins in the bay,
Your presence around me I felt again in nature today.
Though you're not beside me to share night's calm end,
The softness of your kiss I'll know as to sleep I ascend.

By these things I know I am back home.
Back to that same old beach I've forever known.

Rich, I am basking in this. I read it, I feel it, I think about it, and read it and feel it and think about it and start all over. I wonder why I didn't write it. I should have written it. I wish I'd written it. Every time in my life that it seemed the world was through with me I had this same experience. "By these things I know I am back home. / Back to that same old beach I've forever known." I just love this. I must have it as a Favorite. Very good work. Nice rhyming. ML

Rich- Having grown up and been around the ocean all of my life
I know the joys that you speak of here, however, since I hail originally fro New England, I'm a little foggy about the warm sand and water!? :-}
