I have been wounded before
Many, many times it seems.
Each at another location
Just deeper and at angles less extreme.
As you get a little older
Each misstep becomes more important not less
So each time that it happens
You seem less likely to find happiness.
Yet I love all who brought me here
Kicking and screaming
I loved each one in their day
And painfully watched 'em go their merry way.
Bad company never helps
Alcohol only delays
A good run clears the head
And your guitar is still your best bet!
From suffering each time before
Did music break me free
But not this last time, no!
Instead it seemed to bind me!
Following something sweet she sent
A special gift from her I see
I came upon to this brave new place
Decided to stay and make a dent.
When you love someone so special
You must do whatever they whisper
And sooner or later that will include
Learning to shut up and stop the hassle.
An effort of will that is so special
As a big loving gift at the whistle
But its hard as hell not to be heard
And will eventually grind you to gristle.
Your words are the key, man
Go write 'em all down you
I promise you'll feel much better
When you see what ails you.
I thank you all for reading
I really, really do
'Cause your eyes are like solvent
That dissolves all my glue.
