Duck Pond

The water is blue.  No, green.  It is both.
It lies peacefully in its limestone bed ten feet below me.
I sit on a bluff, waiting.
For you.
This is our place; a place of beauty and magic.
Pine needles softly cushion me as I sit among the mesquites.
It is dark up here where the trees are.  It's secluded.
The duck pond, however, is open to the Hill Country.
Past its waters, I see nettle, Indian Paintbrushes and Bluebonnets.
There is a breeze today bringing the earthy scent of my surroundings.
I hear the gravel beneath your tires.  I hear you kill the engine.
Now your shoes on the ground.  You round the bluff.
Bronzed youth from head to toe, you are a creation of this place.
And although I know your touch well, my heart pounds.
Pounding, pounding, pounding - are you walking in slow motion?
I stand to greet your embrace.
My nose comes exactly to the place you spray your cologne on your chest.
Your scent wraps around me and I am dizzy.
This is our only greeting.
When we are here, there is no reason for words.

"You are a creation of this place", "When we are here, there is no reason for words", and the water lying in its limestone bed are all fine lines. A couple of small things to look at would be the two occurences of it's which should be its, and the number in the second line ought to be written as ten. I was going to say something about changing the stops at the end of a few lines, but after reading through again, I think the stop/start effect they have mirrors the experience of the owner of the pounding, pounding, pounding heart.

Congratulations on your award, Dori, good things here.

Dori- This is a pristinely romantic work. It gives me insight into the way you see life and its events. Well done.

Wow So descriptive. I have been to that place at any number of lakes in east texas or at the Yacht club in West Arlington ON Lake Arlington (one of my favorite places to go to be alone and ponder)

Wow, Dori. Take my breath away, why don'tcha? Excellent descriptions, nothing new there. As usual with your work, I see, feel, smell, and touch the things you do. The anticipation is lovely. Well done. ML
