When The Truth Is Found To Be Lies

There is a stench
Upon the air all around
The sound of sabers rattling
It's not in your head
But on your street
It's everywhere
Are you ready?

It's a war
It's beginning
Like no other before
A futuristic bloodletting
That only humans can bring
Will anyone survive it this time?
Tough to see the future is
And which side
Is the right side
If you can tell
Please educate me

It's breeding
Growing
Feeding
The flames of armageddon
Are advancing on all sides
What will you do
When your doorstep is consumed?
Oh! Yes
One day
Your blissful small town American style
Will be consumed

Is there a doorway to peace
Like old Ebenezer's visitations by the three
I can not say
But one thing is for sure
Upon the edge of a great abyss we are
And a mere grain of sand
Beneath our feet falling away
Could send us into the face
Of extinction

Listen to the ground
It aches
With the movement of tanks
Secrets
Passed and whispered
Are heard by walls
And so the fuse is lit
And so we must hold fast
To that hair thin strand of peace
For when it severs
All will feel the pain
And the tears of loss

But maybe
Just maybe
We need it
Like an addict to his drug
We just can't stay away
Like the blood spilled upon the ground
We are addicted to it
Can't help ourselves
How many more must end up
Like those poor souls
Etched forever
Upon that wall
In a small Japanese town

It's no secret
I favor peace
But don't most people
War is never a clean business
We send smart bombs and predators
But still
It is someone's neighborhood
That sees the carnage

It is us
Who created the cancer
Let it fester in all the wrong places
But then again which were the right ones
We created the nightmare
Now are we brave enough
To put the cork back into the bottle
And walk away from the bar
There is no justification
For having the secert formula
That makes your neighbor shake with fear
Look into the eyes of the children
Before you say
Let's blow them all to hell

I take my hat off to you for one of the finest and most honest pieces of writing I have read to date. And I thank you for the pleasure of being able to read it, I applaud while standing here waiting for the all to taye notice of what is really happening around us. You have delivered a wake up call better than I ever could have. Henry

GReat delivery, Night Riding Darkness.Really well thought out and written. It's a pleasure to read something this well put together..We are such a late addition to the history of this planet. We haven't been out of the tree tops that long. The fact that we, as a species ,show any concern for the plight of others is a miracle..We are like a bright ten year pld who is smart enough to devise a pipe bomb, without the maturity to deal with what we can do with it.The atomic bomb is the ONLY reason we didn't follow WW1 and WW2 with WW3...We created a weapon of war so terrible that nobody can win a war waged with it.It's a race against time.We grow up, very fast, or we all die...If you look back on the ramant injustice, even a hundred years ago, you might agree that we've come farther in that hundred years than in all the rest of our history..It's a coin toss, I'll grant you...len
