We Are Humanity
We sit in silence, slowly pushing pebbles across the road with our ripped and ragged Reeboks tennis shoes. The sky is dark, blood shimmers over the horizon, minutes pass without recognizing the sun as eternal timekeeper. We killed it. A few more seconds, we say, and then it will be over. Then we will forget what brought us here, and why we only have a few precious moments left. We play in the craters, rolling in nuclear wastelands, like a play with the deceased. We live in silence, for there is nothing to say. We are all waiting for death to take us, like everyone else. They are shadows, splattered on crumbling walls, shattered molecules of dreams that once were, now lost in the atmosphere. Too late to protest the war, and save our souls. Choice brings us to the places we rest; it leaves us reminiscing, cold, and lonely. Maybe it could have been different, we muse, staring up at the perpetual clouds, as we flick dried bits of grass over our cracked and bleeding palms. But You know, they always say (back when there was something to say) hindsight is 20/20. Unfortunate, that the missiles were dead on.
