Secret Creature
i pour a creature
out to you
out of the secret glass
of my soul.
You cannot see it
as it follows you closer than a shadow.
You do not know its name
or have knowledge of its mythology.
As it leaves you gifts
in the small house of your consciousness.

How it sweeps living words
into the corner of your eyes.
Open doors within your soul
and allows the words to spill
out the watering cans
of your fingers
as they write upon the virgin paper.
As the window of your heart
invites invisible sparrows...

Since i have given it to you
now i am cold
in a creative icebox
for i have squander my secret creature
because it keeps you warm and happy
and finds you lovers
in the surprising accidents of life.
While in the light of the new moon
of my pale sorrow
For you have become the mistress
of the ingenuity of intuitive words.
i am only followed
by my unimaginative
unreliable shadow
as i smile with emptiness
trying to conjure another secret creature
out of the rainstorms
of my lonely brooke of inwardness.

Cold in your creative icebox? well, this is the living proof that that is not true. This is huge. I love it. I can, somehow, relate to it.
