Beneath me I bare a color the same as you.
Pink and pale I am all the way thru,
But outside I am the color of mother earths darkest hugh.
Ebony - The color of a chosen few.
I've been blessed with a bit more pigment than you.
Exotic and exquisite we are,
But some behave as if they never knew.
An enemy to the eye,
They look and they despise the very color that makes us rise.
And the fact that we come in every shape and size gives us a reason to strut and smile no matter how loud their crys.
God himself knows that we are pleasing to the eyes.
Even King Solomon loved the Shulamite maiden from the texture of her hair to the curves of her thighs.
For we were made to be adorned:
As women with shapely bodies and strong minds.
As men of strength and courage that shines.
As children who are smart with bold beaming eyes.
Yes, Solomon was a man with many wives,
But never did he describe them as boldly as he did with ebony skin and ebony eyes.
We are the offspring of Ham, from Bible times, Made from the darkest sand from the grounds of the motherland by God thru both his hands.
Our color was not given as a curse,
For if we were not given this color it would be far worse.
We were made to be different and dignified.
Our color is a crown that will never be defied.
We are the color of ebony and we come in every shade, shape and size.

Chelsey, I am amazed by this strong and
vibrant write. I am so glad I found it
while viewing your profile. I am so impressed
by your description and emotions. You showed
yourself to be a very proud woman and that
is as it should be. 'Ebony' is a beautiful
piece and you have shown yourself to be a
beautiful spirit. Linda

I Think I Love was an excellent write....the power and the was on point....i set out to write a strong poem like this as a tribute to black women but for some reason my humour came out in it and it ended up being more funny that positive....."Heaven on Earth"

This is stirring, powerful and the message is wonderful! You should be proud, irregardless of color, never a lesser...always an equal. I love this, never before have I read such a proud and dignified poem about skin color. I am 'Ivory', but I love 'Ebony'..."Exotic and exquisite we are,", this is true, you ARE!

Excellent work!
