Out Of The Mouths of Gryphons
A gryphon once told me an old adage
a figure of speech of his mysterious species:
“'You kiss like humans...'
it is of uncertain legacy or divergence.”
He informed me.
“what does it mean wise gryphon?”
i asked squeaking a question
in my ignorant throat..

“griffon's do not have lips to kiss...?”
i noted
“you are right little friend
we gryphons are far more advanced.
We have beaks which are far supeior.” he winked
"We griffons find your monkey desires
quite unmeritorious, naïve, and lacking
the why you lock your smiles on each other
such clumsy extensions
lips like salamanders trembling
on the awkward smooth corners
and curves of your mouth flesh
and how you taste
like you have discovered
the other side of the sky...
To us your courtship is the pinnacle
of comedy my featherless friend...
How we love to laugh perched
in the watching trees of this world
gleaming silver in moonlight
and watch the preposterous signals
your bodies make
over the circuit of your animal lips
coursing rubbing looking for keys
into the riddles of your yearning needs.”

So then my mythological friend
the gryphon took his leave
flying as the moon foretold
the song of your footsteps
and boundries of your hands..

My beloved how your full lips
throb with surreptitious vividness.
That is why i stroke your hair
like a flowing curtain of midnight
around the beauteous depths
nooks and crannies
of your shimmering face
veiling the perceptive from gryphon's vision--
They cannot see you
for your splendor is beyond their eyes
and i will not share your gift--
they cannot see the swirling light
of your sweetness beguiling.
you are safe, from the ridicule of these beasts
they can only laugh at me
for i am worthy of their scorn.

For i am but a creature lost
in the fit of your lips
it seems perfect somehow--
beyond the flow of imagination...
and the simple knots of my thinking--
and the gryphon's roost
in their unknown vantage points
smirking and laughing
in the evening winds--
For they do not comprehend the depths
as you press your wordless message
through the veins of my being
and awaken the seed
that slumbers
in the hidden chambers within
and proves that i am not hollow
or empty for i await you at the doors
of my kiss
what world beyond speech
i discover on the surface of your lips
as you trace figures beyond gryphon's knowledge...
