Fear Of Transformation
After i had read
the dog eared book
by flashlight pooling rings
in my old lightless room
as the window panes
are scratched by unseen winds.
A friendly glow settled on the flipping pages,
darkness around the pool of my mind recedes...

i could never fully sleep
always worrying
that i would turn into a cockroach,
as well-- in the short chapters
of my life, and scuttle into forgetfulness
as the cruel house keeper comes
to make the plot amend
to the book's closing ends.

It would seem
i have fear of strange changes
and cannot understand metamorphose
the invisible swift flowing
boundaries of  transformation
or envision its consequences
that await me in silent progression...
beyond my gleaning.

It would seem that something
is happening to me as i read.
Its hard to know
where my true self is hidden
and where it hides behind closed doors
and what shape it will make
at its chosen time.

Not realizing that i had more
to fear from Chuang Tzu's butterfly
as i confuse the state
of  flight and wakening.
For am i a child dreaming a dream
or is a dream dreaming me
in the inner confluence of its logic--
as i breath my secret pages turn
and the dark doors at this time are closed
as i hide thankfully against possibilities of change
as my slumbering wings unfold. ..
