Promises Of Shingles

They count you
when you first
when you come
into this world
not so much
that you offer any promise
but that someday your pockets
offer the possibility of being filled with coins.

Every person howls quietly
in their seasons
like the child that discovers
the world out side
womb has taken surprising shapes...

How people howl
inwardly in their sorrows
and disappointments
to be feed kindness and bread
of perplexing compassion
the wine of understanding....

Much in the same way
thin coyotes at my small
white house at night
rattle the windows
with their hungry songs
not so much for the squalid house
but for the promise of moonlight
that reflects upon the stillness of the shingles.

Dear Andrew-
I thought this was an excellent array of words
and thought it was delivered in an effective manner-
These lines really stood out to me-

Every person howls quietly
in their seasons
like the child that discovers
the world out side
womb has taken surprising shapes...
definitely a great piece!
Best Wishes~
Peace~
James
