Hedgehog Song
My love is like a gnarled tree
when other tree may fall
in the coming storms of life
i shall remain tattered leaves and all.
Though my limbs may bend
my roots run deep
even beyond
the snows of winter's teeth.

Your beauty is like
a small house with warmth
with pools of swirling light
showing the way for lost travelers
on forgotten roads in cruel snow.

My love
is like the shy squirrels
hiding nuts in secret places
always mindfull
that they must store what is good
for they know that winters coming
i can only hide my tears
in the corner of my smile
in the corner of my words
so you will not notice
and neither will my heart
that winter is coming.

Your beauty is your mind
that burns so brightly
how you glimmer in your depth
of knowledge. Shinning like newborn mornings
I am only a passing shadow
a forgotten hedgehog
lurking in brambles
of the woods & moonlight
and what is shade
useful for to burning light
or a hedgehog useful to the morning..
when winter is coming.

My love
is like a small polished stone
that when thrown into
the depths of a dark pond.
only echoes you
in endless waves
after its passage into water
for that is all i have inside me
and then the stone is gone
unlooked for by those who mark
completeness of all things
i will burrow beyond your memory.

And your beauty continues
on in other's arms in greater vastness
beyond my understanding
in realms beyond a hedgehog insight--
and my love for you continues,
in my quiet virtue and your missing shadow--
and then i know that love
is always worth the price
and i must go far
before i sleep
and my love will not forget you
and then the winter comes.....

Extremely beautiful. I always remain without words in front of your poetry. The insight, the honesty, the intelligence, the emotion...they are endless.

Andrew...your words have a mystical effect on me. I really enjoy how you write. This is sincere, sad, heartfelt...all of this but most of all, it is beautiful!
