The Vision Of The Yellow Rose
i must have caught
a strange disease
for i have
yellow roses growing from my eyes...

The doctor thinks its very peculiar
my tongue has sprouted
into a wreath of tangled thorns.
Now i cannot speak
for i do fear that someone
might catch the points of my words
yellow roses growing from my eyes...

Is there a problem
in the soil of my heart,
or the water of my thoughts,
or the pot of my soul.
That is why
i have yellow roses sprouting from my eyes
i am beginning to think like a yellow rose
blooming thoughts.
The doctor says he cannot help me
yellow roses growing from my eyes.

He shakes my hand as i leaf
and he tells that there is no relief
they have not invented any pills
to help me with my flowery problem
yellow roses growing from my eyes.

It is very strange to have such sight
with yellow roses growing from my eyes.
i used to walk bravely anomalously
taking in the scope of ground
with all its modest mystery..
Now i want to look directly
at the flaming pool of the sun
because of the yellow roses needs
and must take their light
yellow roses growing from my eyes.

The towns folk think that i am peculiar
with yellow roses growing from my eyes
they stare at me as i amble by
and whisper in friendly tones
with gentlemanly scorns
that plant is very spooky and uncanny
and i should stay indoors. With
yellow roses growing from my eyes

Why could i not catch a
disease that would make
a more masculine flower
oh how i would long to be
a man with Venus- fly traps,
snapping from my eyes.
but i only have
yellow roses growing from my eyes...

The art teacher told me long ago
to watch the out for the one's
that in their self portraits
mutate their eyes--
now i cannot pose --
for a room full of students
and listen as they scribble
on their pads
the geometry of my eyes
because of those
yellow roses growing from my eyes.

...and as i awoke one day
from my similar dreams
i found dry yellow petals
strewn on my bed.
The visionary flowers had withered--
i sort of miss them now
that they are gone--
as i look back at the browning world
with my normal orbs,
and my eyes are curiously dry and sad
but i guess the optometrist said it best
it was just the pressure of the stems.
when i had
yellow roses growing from my eyes..
