Bird Cage

When i was a child,
a strange angel fell
out of the heavens
through my roof.
i kept her in a birdcage,
until her wings would mend,
from her fall in the room upstairs.
This strange angel- told me a secret-
so i would let her go.
"Child of earth,"
she whispered
into my dreaming soul.
"All men are but donkey carts,
with sparrows for drivers.
When the donkey returns, to the folding dirt.
The sparrow flies above the earth,
in anunending sky."
So i let her go.
To return to the land
above the winds
where one day this sparrow shall fly.
