Flowing Jewel
Cleverness is always a mysterious kitten
that is startled jumps away from my soul.
Jinxing the ladders of my memories
as its dark paws finds its seditious schemes.
Black kitten scamper through puddles
of indifferent raindrops
may all your paths be gloriously fluid..

You tried to convince me
That i was a extraterrestrial child
You would tame me with books
And teach me to human with wise sticks.

You said if i did not stop
using that mischievous left hand..
My sinister hand
would pull me down into hell.
Your quicksilver yardstick tried to convince
my stubborn knuckles
that flames were waiting
in their future and my knuckles
just smiled at you
with black and blue lips…

My left hand finally forgot its cunning
By itself -- i have always trouble remembering.
The left hand left me
and released its hold
on my perplexified soul.

Sometimes you would let
Me recite fluid scripture that long
Had rousted on the simple eves of my heart…

You corrected my tangled tongue
& phrasing with encouragement
As laughter fell on
the serenity of my eyebrows.

You tried to brake through
my blockheaded innocence…
You taught my heart to grow
with particular bonsai knots--
In which the spaces of gentleness
expanded so curious creatures,
Could be refreshed ins its shade
and read its peculiar clumsy leaves.

i do not think i shall never
delight in the fruits that sprung from its vine.
But i do rejoice that
the lustrous flowing gem of compassion
was discovered in the depths of my being
You were the jeweler that allowed
it to unfold from darkness
& the shadowy pockets of my soul...

Teaching one to walk with different steps allows the music within the mind to play louder and bring the dance closer to the soul. Excellent work.

This is breathtaking. Your soft, subtle irony, your descriptiveness, your exquisite metaphors, make this poem a true jewel, a flowing jewel. One doesn't know whether to laugh ot cry...
