Corridor
It's been ten years
Standing at this grave
Holding back tears
You're the one I could have saved

The nights I spent awake
Saying words I could have spoken
Many pills to take
To mend the heart that has been broken

Wake up the pain inside
Release it externally
A part of me will die
To carry on eternally

I will pray to you
To lift me up on my dying day
And our friendship will renew

...

Or am I wrong?

The lies fall like rain
Deceit and persnal gain
No one left in honesty

He took you away
But where will you stay?
Is there an eternity?

He put me in this state
By deciding your fate
So what is there in store for me?

I'LL be the one to decide
No longer in you I confide
I'll rely on logic to set me free

From the pain

...

You're wrong
Take your Bible somewhere else
I need no help

...

I need nothing
No drugs
No alcohol
Nothing.

My future holds nothing but more pain.

Trapped in this cracking shell.

When it breaks, can I face reality?

Will I succumb to the lies and deceit?

I need nothing
No family
No friends
Nothing.

Life was great before you left.

Yet people tell me to believe.

Believe in the being that made me this way.

Believe in the being that took you.

For no reason.

...

Not a chance to say goodbye.
Not a single tear I cried.
All I could do is wonder why.

The shell breaks and now I'm one with the world.
One with my mind.

Not a chance to mend the fence.
An air of hostility that held dense.
Things were strained, they were tense.

If he was walking on this Earth
I'd kill him.

...

What makes you who you are?
They say it's the choices you make.

I never chose for her to die.
I didn't throw her body into that lake.

They say we're created in his likeness.
They say he diedfor our sins.

But he's always playing games with our lives
And he's always the one who wins.

How about the sins of murderers?
Did he die for theirs as well?

He's still out there, roaming free
Will he one day burn in Hell?

These weak hands have called so long
But never an answer received.

I must have been stupid to believe.
Just idiocy preconceived.

There was no hope or help for her.
There's none for me.

...

WHY DO YOU BLAME HIM?

WHY DO YOU REMAIN IN THIS STATE?

I'D KICK YOUR ASS SO HARD IF I SAW YOU THIS WAY...

WAKE UP YOU MORON!

I MAY BE GONE, BUT MY SPIRIT LIVES IN YOU...

DON'T IGNORE THAT SPIRIT, DAMN IT...

DON'T IGNORE ME IN DEATH...

WE WILL MEET AGAIN, JUST OPEN YOUR EYES...

YOU BLAME HIM, BUT I'M THE ONE TO BLAME...

FOR YOU, YOU LIVE IN WONDER NO LONGER...

BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHY I'M GONE.

WAKE UP.

...

Just a dream?
She calls in my dreams...
The waking screams...
The slamming door...
The smell of the rope...
The hand that sinks...
The feeling of futility...
The sparing of a life...
The feeling of a martyr...
Invoke fear...
It's like I'm watching it happen...
AGAIN

Author's Notes:
A storytelling poem about a man blaming God for the loss of a loved one, but now needs to relive what happened to completely understand... maybe. It's in suspense for a reason.

You really didn't need the "about", the piece speaks for itself. I feel the anger in these lines. What really happened does remain a mystery but isn't where the focus is here imo, this really is about the healing process and this man questioning faith in its entirety.

Was he there, unable to save her while she drowning? Great penning John!
