POETRY FORMS: The Cinquain - by Ann

A Cinquain is a five line poem that follows a specific format. While there are many variations of this style of poem, one of the most common follows the following pattern:

Line 1 – a one word title of two syllables that is usually a subject or noun.

Line 2 – a two word phrase that describes the title and is four syllables.

Line 3 – a three word phrase that describes an action that relates to the title and is comprised of verbs and is six syllables.

Line 4 – a four word phrase that uses adverbs or adjectives to describe a feeling relating to the main topic and is eight syllables.

Line 5 – one word of two syllables that refers back to the title.

A Sample Cinquain:

Roses

Dainty blossoms
Waving, bending, blooming
Joyfully gifted, bringing love
Beauty

Considering the number of other variations, why not check out the other forms you can try? Research the topic by typing "Cinquain" in your search engine and get started today!

WHAT'S NEW AT CREATIVE-POEMS.COM?

Site appearance and navigation have been changed to reorganize our many functions and links and give members more control over appearance. By default, category and poem lists are no longer expanded, but you may expand those you use most. The User panel has been similarly improved. We look forward to reading your suggestions in the Forum!

Our Terms of Service was modified to update requirements for the use of Links and URLs, affecting those who use them in poems and profiles. Links are never to be used as the sole reference for graphics, music, or other external digital items you may use. They may not be used to direct users to pornography or malicious code. Users are reminded not to click on suspicious links or URL's anywhere on this website. We recommend all review the TOS.

Comments and feedback are of great importance to our user community. Consequently, we are improving comment and feedback tools. Members can now view their last dozen individual and group comments and an indicator shows which comments have been replied to. In addition, you may privately view a historical summary to assist you in determining how often they have replied relative to their peers. More improvements are on the way. We wish to encourage all to reply to comments on their work. Our goal is to maintain an environment where each member strives to improve their product and sharpen their feedback.
